How bad does taking the ACT look for applying to an East Coast school?

I recently got a 36 on the September ACT and was wondering if that would hurt my chances for an East Coast school (especially the ivies)?

It would look atrocious. They would dismiss you right away for that PERFECT score.

Lololololol

No, a 36 on the ACT is not harmful… and definitely helpful.

Every school in the country will now accept the ACT on equal footing as the SAT’s. No reason to waste your time by taking the SAT’s.

The Ivies will have no problem with you submitting an ACT score instead of the SAT.

The schools use the SAT/ACT conversion tables that easily translate an ACT score to an SAT score. With a 36, they don’t need to use the table, of course.

(From a Princeton alumni interviewer).

Some additional information: Although all schools will accept the ACT in place of the SAT, many schools, including most or all of the Ivies (I haven’t checked them all, but believe that they all do require the SAT II’s) will require that you take trhe SAT II’s.

From Princeton’s web site:

"What tests do I need to take?

A complete application includes official scores of the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT (with Writing, where offered), and two SAT Subject Tests."

Congratulations on the 36.

Idont: Your response was rude and inappropriate. The OP wasn’t crying, but instead was asking a question.

I believe his question was whether or not schools across the country would accept the ACT. There was a time when certain schools would not accept the ACT in place of the SAT, or preferred the SAT over the ACT.

was the mentioning of your score even necessary when asking this kind of question? i’m perfectly sure we could have all given you the “SATs and ACTs are weighted equally now” without the mentioning of your score.

a 36 is impressive. <—praise

you happy?

Lol, tbh doubt a 36 would look bad even if they didn’t want them. Check their website

Yes super terrible… I mean come on what kind of question is this? A perfect score on the ACT … Are you kidding?

Nice use of a banal and obvious question as a thinly veiled attempt to seek approval.

Don’t expect to impress anyone on the largest collection of try-hards on the interwebs.

Really? Just send your score. It will only do you good
