Sorry to switch threads, but I just found out that I got assigned to Oglesby Hall. I already know that this dorm is farthest from the quad and I have to pay an extra $200 for AC. Is there anything good about this place?

FAR, has its pros and cons. The AC is a good thing even if you aren’t in your room so much, trust me, you try to sleep, you’re gonna be glad you have an A/C b/c I lived in Trelease and sometimes when it got hot in March, it took them a couple days to turn the A/C’s back on and it was hotter than hell and you couldn’t sleep and you would constantly sweat. I got to a point where I started putting a water bottle beside my body to try to keep cool.

Those who say you don’t need A/C’s, don’t listen to them b/c if you want to sleep, trust me, you need an A/C. I dealt with that at my home a couple yrs. ago. There was a blackout, didn’t have electricity for a whole day and even without a blanket, you just can’t fall asleep b/c you’re too uncomfortable.

Other pros is that the food’s decent, not the best, but good enough, have the computers in the basement.

Everyone says it’s bad that it is so far, yea, it’s kinda far, but usually they have the buses and so what, you get to your classes fine by taking the 21 or 22 and you don’t have to walk as much as others do anyways. You just have to plan accordingly but even if you do walk, you get to figure out the shortcuts and you can get from FAR to the quad in 10-12 mins.

A con or a pro is the large amount of blacks and asians. Listen, I think they are fine, I lived with a Korean this past year and we got along fine. It’s just that having been around majority white people in my lifetime, that was something new to adjust to. My floor had about probably 40% white, 25% asian, 15% black, and 20% other(Muslim, Hindu, w/e). It’s good to meet new people and all but yea, it’s just tough thing to adjust to even though there were a lot of Asians at my high school as well. But most of them tend to be nice people regardless.

A real big con is the small rooms. They’re pretty small I gotta say lol.

you also get the newer and much nicer furnitures you lucky basts

Thanks for the info. Do you have to eat the food (specialty restaurant) that is assigned to your dorm? I thought that you get to eat anywhere you want…

yes, ANY U of I dining hall except maybe Busey Evans if you’re a guy but im not sure.

I’m thinking about transferring into ISR (if I can get in) but I heard there are a LOT of engineering majors there with very little socializing going on. If that’s the case, I’d rather stick to FAR. What do you guys/gals think?

Wha? Engineering doesn’t mean no social life -_-

I didn’t mean it that way. I just heard that ISR is not very social…

how’s PAR?

I just found out that I have the option of switching into a triple at Hopkins. As of right now, I’m thinking that I should make the switch. Hopkins is closer to the quad and I heard they have better food. What do you guys think?

do hopkins maybe i’ll meet you there
