How bad is getting 400s on a CR reading?

I currently have 430 as my CR reading score and i’m planning to retake next month hoping my score will go up. I’m not that strong in the Reading/ Vocab Section but like if I score somewhere 470 or up, will colleges still consider me? I have a VERY low income and i am applying for EOP/ HEOP. My average is pretty high(3.8) and my math score is pretty high as well (670). I did some ECs and took some hard classes but not many because of budget cuts in my school. I’m an instate student in NY and i applied to CUNYs and SUNYs… I am going to apply to some privates that are a bit selective but stats shows some people did get around 400s on their CR reading… So, may i get some opinions on this?

woops. The title should say How bad is getting 400s on a CR section of the SAT?

Very bad if you’re a native speaker. It’ll be a huge mountain to climb over during college apps

Yeah i’m considered a native speaker… I’m really hoping my score goes up.

Its bad… No need to elaborate further.

Get that score up. Its very bad.

That is very very bad…

I think they get the point that it’s bad, guys.

Anyway. My CR score last time I took the SAT was a 540, but after taking some practice tests and reading a lot of advice threads on here, I’ve managed to raise my score on practice tests by around 100 points. You have to realize that the SAT is trying to trick you, since there are often two answers that “seem” right, but only ONE is really supported by the passage. When choosing an answer, don’t make inferences based on what YOU think is right - most of the time, the answer is pretty much right in the passage.

Yeah i really hope to bring up that score. I’m trying my best.

My first score was a 430, in 10th grade. My latest practice score was a 670. It’s all about practice, and vocab.
