How bad is it that i havent taken precalc?

<p>I have a 3.9/4.06 gpa with a 1990 sat score (630 m., 630 cr, 690 w). im a senior and i am enrolled in AP Statistics but I’ve only gone through Advanced Algebra in math classes. I’m applying to UCLA, UCB, UCSB, UCSD, UCD, UCSC, Tufts, Dartmouth, UVA, USC, and Stanford. I have a lot of reaches… i know. How bad is it going to be if I haven’t taken precalc?</p>

<p>Kiss Dartmouth, UCB, and UCLA unless you have a very strong essay and e.c. Make yourself stand out, these schools have enough 5.0+ GPA and 2200+ SAT applicants. </p>

<p>/Ivy family, many of whom did poorly in academics but succeeded in any levels of education.</p>

<p>I’ll graduate with A2, so imagine how I feel. </p>

<p>Good luck and try not to worry! They review applicants on a case-by-case basis. Also, depending on your chosen major, you may be accepted solely based on your [insert experience in desired field] and ignore/minimize whatever lackings you have in math. </p>

<p>I wouldn’t aim for Stanford though unless you have an EXTREMELY strong essay! </p>

<p>Seriously, I’ve had 3.5 GPA-average SAT friends get into Yale as a result of a powerful essay, according to them at least.</p>

<p>If you had a strong SAT you would maybe be okay, with a 1990 many of those are unrealistic. I interview for Dart, and lately it seems even a 2200 isn’t good enough.</p>

<p>Yeah, I would apply to some backups. Those kinds of school practically expect you to have taken AP Calc.</p>

<p>Maea – I noticed you did say “practically,” but just for clarification those super selctive colleges expect you to take Calculus. “AP” designates a specific corporate curriculum, which the majority of American schools have NOT bought into. Students from schools systems that have not bought into the CollegeBoard curriculum are not penalized for a decision that was made by their school board and administrators.</p>

<p>Not only that, but I can’t imagine top schools seeing AP Calc as some kind of unwritten minimum requirement. I believe regular calc or honors calc is just fine, especially when applying for a non-science major.</p>

<p>Granted my GPA was a little better (4.33 W), but I got into UCLA OOS with a 2010.</p>
