I have GRE score of 333 (V:166 Q:167) AWA:5 and a CGPA of 9.57.

I lack research experience because I want to specialize in Engineering design and I simply couldn’t get any research projects for that. I do have practical projects including 2 of them involving using FEA for finding out vibration mode shapes. How can I explain this? Should I put it in my SOP? I am really enthusiastic about higher studies and I enjoy engineering design for the sake of it. I want good opportunities to realize my interests.

Are you looking at coursework-based programs or thesis-based programs?

Practical projects are a good thing to have in the absence of research experience for a research -based degree. However, you have got the wrong idea if you think that the specific field of research that you do as an undergraduate makes any difference. It is more important to have some research experience than to have it only in the field you are interested in for graduate studies. If you still the opportunity to get some research experience, then do so and mention it in your SOP.
