How bad is this?

A few days ago, I was notified by the school about some cyber-bullying group on facebook. Apparently I was in the group (I must have joined accidentally while being invited). Now I have to go to an assembly about it and stuff. There’s no criminal charges or anything, but I’m very afraid about it interfering with scholarships from the school and college admissions next year.

I never posted anything, and I even told my Vice Principal and Guidance Counselor that I didn’t mean to join. They said I was fine, but I’m still worried. I’m known as a pretty good kid, but I’m freaking out about how this one small mistake might affect me.

Any idea on how bad this is?

You’ll be fine.

It sounds like a talk being given to lots of students (whole school?), which I completely understand, especially in light of the news (google “Phoebe Prince”).

Just attend the meeting, be honest, and you will be fine.

Cyberbullying is a very serious issue, which is why they are doing this.

It’s being given to everyone was in the group (which is around 200ish).

Yea, I’m in MA, which is probably a bigger reason why it’s such a big issue.

^Really, it’s not going to be a personally attack on you.

I completely understand, as I’m sure you do, why the administration is doing this. 200 is a large number, of which you were accidentally 1. Don’t worry about it. Hopefully this lesson helps people out though!

Yea, I agree. Do you think this would end up on my counselor’s rec for college next year?

^I really really really really doubt it.

Your counselor is not going to put that on a rec. Seriously, they still want you to get into a top school so that they can boast about it. Don’t worry!
