how bad is too bad?

This isn’t necessarily directed at Stanford…but how far is too far for a GPA to drop? I’ve been slacking this year…my GPA up to junior year was a 3.7…but this year it will probably be around a 3.4…I have a test 2morrow in chem and I can’t find my book…If I dont do well I might end up w/ a C for this goal…which may lead to a C in the class! Will this first C mean that colleges will consider recanting my acceptance since I’m usu a mostly A student?

I’ve spoken to people from Harvard who failed classes their second semester senior year. All that happened is that Harvard asked them to explain what went wrong.

To rescind a recommendation is serious. Usually by the time your grades are out, you’ve made your deposit and deadlines to tell schools yes or no has passed. If they were to rescind your admission offer, you’d probably have to settle for a state school with lax deadlines, or enroll in community college. It can really unravel somebody’s life, and colleges are aware of that, which is why it’s something they don’t do often.

That being said, it can indeed unravel your life, which is why you want to keep your grades as reasonable as you can. A C might be looked upon unfavorably, but if you keep your other grades at A-level, it shouldn’t be a huge deal.
