How bad it is to have talked about the same thing in all your essays?

I didn’t follow the advice to not read what you wrote after submitting your application, but I also realized something interesting as I did read over my MIT application.

All of my essays and short answers for MIT (2 short and 3 long) boil down to the same thing - electrical engineering. I guess in a way they show my interest for it, but in the same way don’t share much else about my life and ultimately paint me as a linear person.

I guess my question then is: Did I hurt my application by doing this, and if going forward for my remaining applications, should I make sure not to do the same thing?

Thanks for the help.

I would not worry about what you did in the past- you’ve already submitted the app, and there’s nothing that can be done.
However, for future apps, I remember hearing this advice at a Stanford info session- use each spot on the application to reveal something new about yourself.

@yonceonhismouth I wish I knew that before I applied.

Thanks for the help.
