How bad will 600 writing look?

I am applying to engineering to several top schools, and took the writing test this past weekend. i sucked it up bigtime, between 550 and 650. how bad will that look? i already have 780 math IIC, and probably got 770+ physics this weekend.

any feedback is welcome  thanks!

Well top-tier schools already get countless applicants who excel in the math/science areas but lack in the verbal/writing areas. They want people who can show creativity and an adequate writing ability so you appear more well-rounded throughout your academic subjects. I think a low writing score will hurt you, but if you can retake it for a 700+ you’ll be in good shape. I would get a study guide (I recommend Kaplan’s) and get accustomed to the type of errors you will find, as you will see them again and again on the real test.

maybe i did better than i thought… i dont know… but all i do know is that i am not that bad at writing, i am just a little slower with answering the questions. i had to do the last 30mc’s in 15minutes b/c i lost track of time and worked too slowly.

I took kaplans and got 47/60 mc’s right… 43 raw score. but even that mc score with an essay of 10 or 11 wont be very high…

Actually that’s a somewhat decent score, especially with an essay of 11. But yeah the essay is killer sometimes, you have to work quickly.

my essay isnt what i am worried about honestly… i wrote 1.5pages and it was developed and thorough. four solid paragraphs, nice conclusion, even finished about 3-4 minutes early  those mc’s will get me though.

Yeah for the MCs, use Kaplan’s book. It’ll help you out, I promise =) If you read the explanations for the answers too, it gives you a good idea what to expect on the test. Nothing will throw you a curveball

i cant retake it though, stuck with what i have. i skipped school on friday and took two kaplan tests for writing, did better on the second, and then i did a few physics tests… physics was uber easy… haha but i really screwed up writing.

43mc+3.4*10=34+43=77 what is that as a scaled score? somewhere around 660? thats the best case senario.

a 660 is respectable. It won’t kill you (personally I think the only “killer” scores lie below 600).

haha but thats with a 10 on the essay, and getting 47mc’s right… i probably got something like 40mc’s and 8essay…

oh well, ill find out a week from friday…

the kaplan curve is extremely harsh…don’t pay attention to it…i took my June score breakdown and put it into kaplans curve and i got a 510 but in reality i got a 610. that is the only thign wrong with the prep books for writing…their curves are too harsh

shaweet! sounds good, thanks!

i took a practice and got a 720. i ended up getting 560. and i can write.

haha great! thanks to make my confidence go the other direction. lol

Yeah, uh, how much will a 440 Japanese SATII hurt me? I’ve got an otherwise flawless app (well, aside from extracuriculars). When I apply to colleges (I’m a junior), I’ll have math IIC, possibly writing if I’m happy enough with my Dec. SAT score to take writing in January than the SATI, and then I’m not sure what other SATII I’d have. I could do physics, but my physics teacher sucks, and I won’t be in AP physics till next year. So basically when I apply to colleges if I don’t have 3 other SATII’s than Japanese, am I **** out of luck?

find something 440 is realy bad lol… .nonnative speaker?

Yeah, I’m white and I do Japanese distance learning through sattelite TV. I didn’t realize there wasn’t a curve on language tests, otherwise I woulda cancelled my scores.

haha ic! yea find another test

bumpity bump!
