How bad will the traffic be when Obama comes? Driving from West LA...

I would like to come to the USC campus this upcoming Friday for the Obama rally. BTW, I’ll be driving from UCLA. I probably won’t leave until 11:30 AM (not much I can do about it, I don’t get out of class until 11 and I absolutely can’t ditch it). Do you think it’s reasonable to be able to get to the USC campus on time?

Does anyone know if USC will block off the main streets? Will it even be possible to get onto USC campus via car?

It might be challenging to park on campus. I don’t think the President will arrive on campus until at least 1pm so as long as you get there before then you won’t have to worry about the motorcade blocking traffic. Finding parking might be really hard though cause the hundreds of volunteers, advanced team, and secret service will all be here and parked before then.

Here’s an email that USC Transportation sent today.

President Barack Obama will be visiting campus on Friday, October 22, 2010 for a fundraiser and a rally, which is scheduled to take place near Alumni Park at approximately 1:30pm.

With expected attendance nearing 30,000 we are anticipating major traffic congestion on and around campus so please plan on arriving early to avoid delays. At this time, we have not received information from the Secret Service and LADOT regarding street closures around campus but we have been informed that trams will not be allowed to operate on campus. To that end, we are planning to pick-up and drop-off at Jefferson and Hoover (similar to Commencement). Please keep in mind that this is subject to change based on the direction of the Secret Service, Department of Public Safety and LADOT.

It should also be noted that we have been instructed to blockade spaces in PSA as well as PSX in order to accommodate the event and as a result permit holders may be displaced to one of the following structures: PSB, PSD, PS1, PS2 and/or the Parking Center located on Jefferson and Grand.

We certainly apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause but appreciate your understanding and support. For more information please visit [University of Southern California](http://www.usc.edu).
