So I’m a Junior right now and its essentially the end of the year and I don’t think I can bring my grade back up because right now I have a 78-79 with no more grades. How badly would a C affect my chances to get into a LAC like Colgate? My grades every year are generally around 2-3 A’s and the rest B+
First of all, Colgate is not a LAC but a research U. Second, the Common Data Set, section C, shows what is used in admission and the average stats of matriculating students. https://www.colgate.edu/docs/default-source/default-document-library/cds_2015-2016-final_updated-05182016.pdf?sfvrsn=0 Your GPA is maybe a 3.7? That’s right around the mean. One C won’t kill you but there are other attributes considered for admission.
To clarify…
Colgate is a large LAC - roughly 2900 students, few graduate students, a 9:1 student:fac ratio - larger than most LACs.
Its website supplies great information on its special and rather unique aspects and characteristics, including research and off-campus study opportunities. One of its greatest assets is access to faculty, staff and programs you might associate with larger universities. It’s an ambitious institution.
Go 'gate!
One C won’t kill your chances if everything else is in line with Colgate’s wants. Obviously it isn’t helpful but it’s water under the bridge now so just concentrated on the things you do have control over. good luck!
My mistake on the LAC/RU. I misread. Thanks @markham
