Im an undergrad currently in my sophomore year. I am studying Russian and am hoping to go abroad. I had a bad semester this year and ended up with a D and a C for two classes. They were stats and accounting two. I do not need a minumun grade besides passing in either one but my gpa took a hit. I went from a 3.46 to 3.26. Will this be detrimental to my study abroad chances or future classes, I recieved credit for both but a friend said I should retake them. But I cant afford to unless absolutely necessary. Im a management major with a russian minor.
Some study abroad programs have a minimum GPA requirement for applying, so check the ones you are interested in. Most have requirements lower than your current GPA, which is not awful, by the way. I have seen 2.5 and 2.75 in some programs.
I wouldn’t bother retaking a class in which I got a C. A D would be iffier, but I would only do it if I was planning to transfer or go to grad school, particularly if I didn’t have the money easily available.
Check with your counselor. The “d” is the one that bothers me especially being a management major. Also hard to answer such an open ended question when no one knows the school your at or program you applied to. They all have different requirements.
