In Mid-April, I’ll be heading up to D.C. for SIS’s “Grad Day” for newly accepted graduate students. Since I don’t really know what to expect, I’m curious if anyone has any advice for things it might behoove me to prepare beforehand. Resume? Possible advisers? etc. etc.

Grad Day last year was pretty casual. As I remember it, we had the welcoming speech, some professors spoke about their research, then we broke for lunch. We also split up by program to go over the various degree requirements, and kids could make appointments with their academic advisers to sign up for classes. I think there were campus tours and such too. Since I already lived in DC and could visit anytime I skipped anything I could do later when there were fewer people around. No one will expect you to bring a resume or anything like that. It’s pretty much just to let you get a feel for the school.

Just enjoy it. It’s not a test, and you’re not expected to act in any certain way. Again, enjoy!

I went and visited AU yesterday. Was a very “broken up” campus, I was surprised. It is like not all in one spot. But most of it is, except the law school and other buildings. Its very close to Georgetown. I didn’t get to see all of campus, but its half the size of my current university in area, but as big as it is in population. That must be weird. I am an on-campus person and I like to get involved in my free time so hopefully there is stuff to do.
