My husband interprets that as good. :D

My husband interprets that as good. :D

I dunno, I hope I smell better than " not necessarily offensive". :)

I also buy H scented soaps, but he won’t use them.

EK, H was just kidding, he does use deodorants.

In my household, Father’s Day is sandwiched between S1’s birthday and my birthday. When the kids were younger, they’d chip in together to get him a small gift (a CD, for example). Now that they’re grown but living on limited incomes, and with my birthday coming up, they just send cards and call him (hopefully). He’s OK with that. I get him a gift because I appreciate how he is as a father.

This will also be his first father’s day since his own father died, so I’m sure it will feel different for him anyway.

I don’t think the smell has anything to do with deodorant unfortunately, I think it is just part of the natural process of all the cells not being renewed as fast as they once were.

But to go back to Fathers day. We do seem to do more for Fathers day than Mothers day, just by virtue of where it falls on the calendar, but I don’t go out of my way to do anything extra.
He often spends it with one, and this year both the girls, so that will be special.

Fathers day falls on the final of the us open golf championship. Every year we would do breakfast and walk the dos togehter, then my husband happily went to his golf club and watched with people who cared!!!

He loved it and loved that we didn’t needto hang out with him all day. Then we had family dinner.

Presents were usually a fun hawaian or other casual going out shirt

My father and father in law live out of easy driving distance. We generally send a card to each and call them. My kids and I all give a card to my husband and sometimes the kids give him a gift. My older son gave my husband an early Fathers day present of a four-pack of his favorite beer from Vermont. It’s not a big celebration for us, but then, Mother’s day isn’t either.

A Father’s Day gift idea . . .

Usually I make a big “farm breakfast” then DH gets to do whatever he wants unplanned. I had a flash of inspiration the other day while standing at the kitchen sink. I was about to say something to the effect of, “It’d be great if you turn the coffee pot off when there’s less than 1/4 inch left so it doesn’t scald.” Instead, I started my own Methadone Thread of the Mind . . . type and delete . . . here not there . . . I don’t have to say everything that pops into my mind but does not advance the conversation. Happy Father’s Day - I will turn the coffee pot off on my own and you will never know that it was left on and I will wait until you leave the room to rearrange th dishwasher. :D

^great idea – and very smooth promotion of your own thread, Saintfan! I saw what you did there :)

No plans so far. It would be hard to top what H did for Mother’s Day (nothing). That’s not true actually – he sent belated guilt flowers the Monday after.

My father died in '04, but H’s is still living and would love to see him. I’m going to suggest we all take a drive out to Long Island, but I have a feeling H won’t want to.

Aaaargh! Need. Methadone. Now.

Not so much promotion as trying to apply those same principles that I’ve been working on of just letting some things go or if I must make note to do it in a place and way that’s not corrosive. Now that I’m getting better at it I think it would be a wonderful gift to start practicing around the house more ;)

H is taking the week off to play on the house and to go to Ds graduation, so he should feel relaxed.
Last month younger D gave her dad[CASCADIA’S FAULT](http://www.cascadiasfault.com/) to read for his birthday, ( she is thinking of majoring in physical geography) and older D is giving him [url=http://buriedinthesky.com/]Buried in the Sky /url for Fathers Day.
I doubly score because I can read the books he gets, but he never wants to wear the earrings that I get!
;)

Wow, saintfan, you’re a saint. I really need to try that “type and delete” method.
(Problem is, with my H, I just can’t type that fast!)

Mind you this just occurred to me yesterday after 19 years of marriage, so not a saint exactly. I’m going to try, though. However, it is kind of a stealth gift as one won’t get gifting credit for the things that one doesn’t say
He’ll still get the farm breakfast and the “kitchen pass” to go fishing.
