Hey guys! I know some people to me to not get worried about college, and enjoy highschool and such but I do! I understand at the same time we live in a very competitive world, and you must make sure every step of the way is as perfect as possible to get into the college of your dreams. I am a freshmen and a very stressed freshmen to be exact. I was wondering how my freshmen grades compare to those who got into Columbia! Here are my stats (so far)

Geometry Honors - B (86) - How negatively would this impact the rest of my application in a couple of years?
AP World His - A (91)
Debate - A (99)
Biology - A (91)
English - A (can’t remember exact score)
French 1 Honors - A (94)

Advice/Help/Study tips? I have no idea if this is the right section ugh. I’m sorry if I seem annoying! :(

5A’s 1-B by my count. The only thing to be worried about is your stress level. Relax, do your best. good things will happen.

As long as you understand that you’re being very early (and aren’t asking for chances) we won’t snark about your questions. I’m no adcoms expert and don’t pretend to be, but the general consensus is that most of the influence in your grades come from your sophomore and junior years, with the most important part of your senior year being your schedule.
Claims like “you need a 4.0 to be able to get into an ivy” is a myth. There are people (including some that I know) that got into top schools with 3.5s and valedictorians rejected from every top school they applied to.
Try to get as many As as you can but don’t stress too much your freshmen year. My recommendation is be well-rounded in general and find passions in a few things.

Well there are generally 7 semesters that contribute towards your class rank, and your freshman year contributes 2/7 so it’s pretty important. You’ll want to be at or near the top of your class (at least top ~2%) when applying to cornell unless you attend a super competitive high school.

^^ Cornell? Writing her off for Columbia already? jk
