yeah I was just trying to word my post but struggled to capture my thought hah. You got it right on the money.

bump please

If you’re looking for more feedback, why don’t you let us know what you’ve digested so far and what you plan to do with the advice you have received to date.

Ok sory laxtaxi…

I will wait two weeks, (first year at my public school , grades 10-12 for hs in my district). Hoepfully, they will realize that I have experienced my public school… It may only be a month, but so be it. I will try to convince them to allow me to go to Blair’s Open House. I dout they will go for it but who knows. I have already scheduled my psat’s (my parents arent even aware yet, I went to guidence today and did it), and see how I do. I am in Geometry, which is regular math, so I will not do as good in the geometry/trig/calculus portion as I havent taken it. I think I will be fine on reading/writing though. I will then visit both blair and peddie (i have lax at peddie for fall/winter, so I will be forced to visit it, talk about sly move!) I will schedule meetings and try to get as much of the paperwork aspect out of the way by myself.

Thats just a rough outline though. Comments/Corrections?

You can schedule to take SSAT’s too. Also, instead of just visiting, you might actually schedule an interview at the schools you intend to visit. You are not required to have an application sent in already before interviewing. When you have your interview, be candid with the interviewer, that you do not yet have your parents on board yet, but you wanted to see for yourself what kind of candidate you would be be before making the hard sell for your parents. I would think the interviewer would be impressed with your chutzpah if nothing else.

I remind you again to watch your grammar and spelling. You will not do “good” on the test, you will do “well” on it. Doing “good” suggests altruism, such as charity or volunteer work. Doing “well” is a statement of performance.

When you talk with your parents you might consider discussing with them what motivates them for you. Do they see you as a scholar? Do they want you in a private, elite college? Or, do they see in you your state school (not that there’s anything at all wrong with that)? If you can show them that graduating from your HS will not help you attain goals that they (and you) see for you, that might help. For example, maybe your school doesn’t offer certain classes necessary for elite schools. or maybe your school has a subpar placement record in colleges. And, of course, if you can show your parents that you have a particular passion in life that you wish to pursue and your opportunities to do so at your HS are limited, that might bolster your argument. Of course, being passionate about attending BS doesn’t count.

My school sends kids to “upper-level” institutions and is a “National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence”. My district is like third or fourth in my state. Despite sending off kids to good schools, a number of them just go to Penn State, West Chester, and Millersville. Penn State is a good school outside of PA but in state it is “no big whoop” and for an honors student it is solely a backup. In my family I am kind of tagged the “smart one” not by my parents and imediate family but by my cousins, uncles, and whatnot.

I want to go to Johns Hopkins, Brown, or Georgetown for college. I know my odds are against me but know at the end of the day I can pull everything and succeed. It may sound cocky but that is a honest gut feeling.

As for as my spelling/grammar, I have already admitted to it. There is no spell check and most of my posts are at a late hour after a full day of work and school. There are numerous flaws in other posts, so please cut me some slack.

Basically, I am mostly concerned with getting into JHU. It has been my favorite university since I was seven and decided I wanted to be a surgeon. Maybe one kid from the graduating class per year is admitted, so my chances are slim. It is really my main proirity. Most schools such as Blair/Peddie have a good reputation and may act as a “feeder” school. College admisssions are comfortable with the school and that may give me the extra edge. That is just my logic. Am I correct on this statement?

Overall, the numbers are better than I thought, especially with JHU. It isnt even close to a boarding schools, yet considering its public it’s not bad.

Are those numbers good? I really have no clue. Thanks I really want to go to Hopkins, and the main part of me wanting to board is to get in. Is the fact that I go to public make it harder/easier to get accepted?

im sorry, “Maybe one kid from the graduating class per year is admitted”?
that stat up there accepts roughly one-third of the people who apply, which is pretty damn good (though i get why you’d mix that up seeing as only one actualy enrolled) unless you decide to attend a place like groton, that’s a pretty good statistic right there. of course there are other things you’d like about boarding school, but i think “better acceptance at JHU” will limit you to very few schools.

then again, i know what you mean about people getting into “elite” schools that aren’t really that great to the school itself. it’s frustrating; only like one person get accepted into stanford here out of like 80, it’s crazy.

Hah yeah I mixed that up… I meant enrolls. I would clearly go for ED, as I need all the help I can get

feedback?_______

i need some fresh ideas please. How did you convince them?

take them on a trip to see a dorm room, common room, etc. make sure its like the time u would b leaving school normally, so they would really see how late you would be getting home if u drove.
