How can I get into a higher ranked school and not one that is lower ranked???

I was accepted to the University of Miami. And today I was rejected from Tulane University. How does this make any sense?

Is UMiami a bigger school? do they accept more students?

38 vs. 50

There’s really not much difference between these two ranking wise.

Selectivity (acceptance rate) is only one factor in the rankings. And if you go to the CB College Search function, you will see that UMiami is significantly less selective (38%) than Tulane (25%).

In making a school list, one should always use admissions DATA, not rankings, which are based on many factors that have nothing to do with admissions.

I could write a book on this one…but suffice it to say that admissions are very different at these two schools…

It has nothing to do with the rankings…

College rankings usually are made up of a combination of quality of programs, faculty quality, program quality, student satisfaction, etc. Admission selectivity only might play a small role into that number. When analyzing situations like this, you must consider the acceptance rates (provided in an above post) of both colleges, the qualifications of the applicant pool, if majors are impacted, etc.
