How can I get into Florida

Let me start off with the following: I am new to this.

Anyways, I have always wanted to go to Florida, I would be so crushed if I did not get into Florida. I am still a sophomore, but I live in Texas. Sadly. And since I am out of state it will be harder to get in… I completely screwed around my freshman year and I really regret it, cause I know that it will affect me. I really want to get in there! I have yet to take my SAT/ACT and I expect to ace them, my grades are looking SOOOOO much better compared to my previous grades. I have mostly As and I guess it’s good.

I made some math and it seems like I can get up to a 3.4uw gpa by the end of my junior year

Another thing is, I never got involved with school all I did was ROTC (Which I’m not so sure if that is going to help?). I plan to do StuCo or PALs next year, and A LOT of volunteer work. So hopefully I get in :/

Thanks, any help would be great!

Oh and I am currently taking two PAP/AP classes, getting in all AP/PAP next year

Hey! I was in a similar situation to you, and was admitted for this Fall! I am an OOS student from Texas as well. My Freshman year I got a D in a semester of Pre-AP English so it killed my class rank for the rest of high school. I made up for it by doing well the rest of my high school years AND being in a lot of high dedication clubs such as Theater Tech, my FIRST Robotics team, and a few others. I also held a lot of leadership positions in several clubs. My SAT was 1900 and my ACT 27, so make sure you do both because my SAT score is much better than ACT.

Unfortunately, since you only have ROTC as an extracurricular it may be borderline if you get in or not, but it’s worth applying. Make sure to have an excellent essay. Try to include someone you are passionate about in your essay as it shows that you have a definite plan for what you want to do which will make you stand out among a lot of other students.

Do you happen to be an Eagle Scout by any chance? I know a lot of scouts end up doing ROTC and having your Eagle Scout will help you a TON. Best of luck applying!

not too late to join service clubs, etc … make your junior year awesome. I didn’t do much my freshman and sophomore year either, but my junior year I joined multiple clubs/sports and put that on my application. Trust me it is better than nothing.

it is unfortunate that your gpa will be so low by the end of your junior year… is that if you get straight A grades? Hopefully not.

Good news for you: Being OOS doesn’t mean you have less of a chance of getting in. Actually, it has NO EFFECT on your admission. And pick the term you want, your term selection has no bearing on your admission. These are all straight up facts you can get straight from an admissions officer.
