How can I have access to the special testing periods for SAT and ACT?

I have been diagnosed with a disorder, and I think it has drastically affected my testing prior. Is there anyway I can have access to the special testing periods?

The term is “accommodations.” First read through the section on the College Board website https://www.collegeboard.org/students-with-disabilities and the appropriate section on the ACT website. Then contact the learning services/special education coordinator at your high school and/or your school counselor.

Also - start the process very early. It takes time to get approval and often requires multiple attempts to get the paperwork accepted.

See, the problem is I’m a senior and I ask solely b/c I have been diagnosed recently (received a formal diagnosis, that is). I want to know if that period is still open (I have the proper documentation available). I wanted to know if it is worth a shot to call and ask either ACT or collegeboard and see

Doesn’t hurt to ask. We worked through D’s high school coordinator to submit all required testing and documentation, and received word back from ACT in roughly two weeks.

Call the testing agencies about requesting accommodations to find out precisely what you must submit. An important element of the application is documenting that you have used the requested accommodations at school under some sort of formal plan. The companies are sensitive to students requesting accommodations for the first time especially without history close to the test date. If you have the required information, send it in because documentation review takes time and more information may be requested. Information on accommodations by each agency is available on their websites.
