how can I improve my reading comprehension

Hi, I’m wondering what is the best method to improve my reading understanding
Because I’m an international I’m struggling to understand long passages
Is reading any materials will do it, or reading specific kind of articles like scientific articles, news, stories.

I’ll be Grateful for any advices

One thing I’ve always found helpful is to predict the answer before looking at the answer choices. So basically, just read the question and then force yourself to go back into the text and find the answer on your own. This forces your brain to make the connections in the passage on a deeper level, thus improving your concentration in the process.

And other than that, just READ READ READ. Read anything that you enjoy–it doesn’t have to be science or difficult subjects. I like to read magazines on my favorite topics (such as sports) since the articles aren’t too short and aren’t too long either. The key is simply that you read consistently–1 or 2 hours out of class every day will definitely go a long way over an extended period of time.

I have worked with many international students in the past so I definitely understand how hard it can be to take a difficult test in (presumably) your second language! Best of luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

unfortunately, English isn’t even my second language, it’s my foreign language
Is reading sport materials would improve my reading comprehension.
I found this site http://www.sciencedaily.com/</a> is it good for this
another question do you think ACT may be easier for me? I’m very smart in mathematics and science

Well, I think just reading ANYTHING consistently will improve your comprehension. If you read something you enjoy, this will guarantee that you read a lot.

And to answer your question: yes, I think the ACT could be a better option for you because of the fact that 50% of the test is Math and Science based. On the SAT, only 1/3 is. So yes, I think the ACT is quite often a better option for international students and that is something you should definitely consider.

Thank you, you helped me a lot
I’ll try to take practice test for both, and now where I can score greater
