How can I improve my scores? And is it possible?

I took the ACT with writing this June and I just got my scores.

Here they are
Composite: 28
English: 30
Reading: 31
Science: 27
Math: 24…

I was disappointed beyond belief. Most people tell me the scores are not bad considering the fact that I came from Cuba just 5 years ago. But I’m a perfectionist and I’m number 3 in my class of 680 so I’m pretty embarrassed. I want to go to the University of Miami. Because it’s so expensive, I need to get higher scores to get a good scholarship. What can I do to bring it up to at least a 31? Is it possible? Thank you guys in advance

I am not sure why you are embarrassed. A 28 composite is a really great score and you should be proud. Being a perfectionist can be helpful when it helps you to keep improving, but it is not helpful when you just feel bad about a really impressive score. I am not sure what you were expecting or why this is embarrassing, I am sure you could improve your score by 3 points if you really put your mind to it. There are many good materials out there to use – the Red Book, Barron’s 36, and PR Cracking the ACT would all be good places to start. Best of luck to you!
