how can i improve reading and verbal on ssat

im trying to get into exeter and im aiming for a 99 percentile. im still constantly missing about 3 each on the verbal and reading. my math is always perfect. how can i improve my score on the verbal besides memorizing words?? and what about reading??

Well, you could use that time you’re spending taking practice tests, and read…

Seriously. Stop worrying about it. It won’t make a difference. You’re better off reading a good book or teaching yourself to ride a unicycle so that you have something interesting to write about in your essay.

Handan, obsessing over 2-3 missed in a section when your scores will still be 95%+ suggests a personality that might not be a “right fit.” You hear about the kids (lots of them in fact) who score 99% and are not admitted. That’s because, outside of a big brain pan, they don’t have a life, or are obsessed about a limited goal like scoring 99% instead of 95%. It shows a lack of balance. Be happy with your scores as they are and focus on the other aspects of your application. To have some semblance of being well rounded, “more than just a scores-obsessed” kid, would be a plus.
