I’m a 16 year old girl who knows a lot about sports and last summer I started a blog where I write about sports. Is there anyway I can use this sports knowledge and blogging as a plus on a college app?

Any suggestions out there? Anything is very much appreciated :)

Many towns have free local papers that are sent to everyone in the town. Approach yours and tell them about your blogging and ask if you can be a guest columnist. Perhaps you can cover some of the high school sports in your town. Or, if you are interested in writing in general, you can be their local correspondent at the high school. There is one in our local paper; she writes about general goings on at the school.

And, you can always make your blogging about sports the topic of a college essay.

Do you generate any income from your blog? How many unique hits do you get a month?

No income from my blog, it is private so I am only one to read it.

I was reading today about people who got into good schools after they wrote essays comparing college admissions to sports. Think I might do this because I know an insane amount about sports and all.

Thanks to all that answered!

If your blog is private, you’re essentially asking if your diary can be a plus in college admissions.

It is very far from a diary. It is articles about sports everything and yes it is private but I would not call it a diary.

I was really trying to ask if my sports writings and vast knowledge of sports can be used as a plus.

As mentioned earlier, I think you should talk to a local newspaper and see if you can get pieces published now and then. That would look nice on your application.
