How can I pick a major if I’m interested in more than one?
You just have to pick one. Most people are interested in more than one thing, but you have to make a decision eventually.
There are a lot of different criteria you can use:
- Which classes do you enjoy more?
- Which one has better professors at your university?
- Which one has better career prospects? (Think long-term, though.)
- If you had to read a book in that selected topic, which topic would you rather read more?
When I was in college, I was interested in political science, psychology, and sociology as majors. I looked at the course catalog to see what I’d be required to take. I didn’t like the political science classes too much, so I ruled that out. I took an intro sociology class, and while I liked it, I was looking for something with a harder scientific bent. So I tried out psychology, and that one fit better, so I majored in it.
You can double major (maybe; depending on the program).
You can major in one thing and minor in another.
You can major in one thing and take classes in another without declaring a formal minor.
