Hey guys.
I am a current sophomore who got a 59 on his Math PSAT in 10th grade.
Math was never my strongest subject, but it was never my weakest either.
I have been doing 1-2 SAT math practice tests on a daily basis, and have greatly improved my scores.
I am now in the 700-710 range. However, I have not been able to raise my score past 710.
The past 5 practice tests I’ve taken have resulted in 710’s.
I am looking over and practicing what I got wrong but when I take another practice test, I somehow miss several questions.
What would you recommend I do to raise my 710 to an 800?

I think it would be a good idea to move away from the traditional test prep books and work on the more creative and challenging problems that do not necessary follow the sat format strictly. This would help broaden your mind. Using real or close-to-real problems would never get you beyond the test writers. This is just my personal opinion. At least, it was what I did to get from 710 to 800.

I agree with the above poster for sure.

Two things are needed for a perfect score.

Error-free computing

Mastery of basic arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric concepts.

where can i get more challenging problems without purchasing a book?

I have a few sets of problems that I used for the weeks leading up to my test date, and found them to be very helpful. Unfortunately I don’t have the solutions since these problems were not publicly available. Let me know if you are interested.

Hey haitek,

Do you mind posting some of those practice problems up here?

Thanks!

dns031

We can post our solutions here

I am also interested and will need the problems as soon as possible because I am taking the test on may 4. so can you please post them as soon as possible? thanks in advance.

Ya I’m also taking it may 4, and im scoring from 1500-1600 in critical reading and writing combined on practice tests… The math is what’s keeping me from a 2400.

I have not try this problem, but they are just a few hard problems i found on the web that i plan on working on.

dsn031 how did you work on the writting section i am having difficulties with it.

Dr. Chungs

Nuff said. Go through that & you shall receive thy 800.

Isn’t it true that Dr Chungs has many mistakes? I thought that others have had a frustrating time with that book…am I wrong??

i had to decide between grubers and chungs and chose grubers as chungs got pretty bad reviews.

grubers has really disappointed me.

it has not helped me at all, and i am back where i started - blue book.

@redrag - i have not been doing any prep for the writing section… its pretty self explanatory if english is your first language… if not i recommend reading books for fun to develop an “ear” for proper sentence structure and syntax. in regards to the essay, i recommend writing sample essays under timed conditions and having a friend or family member read it over and give you a mock score.

back to math—> do you guys think chungs is worth it? or should i just keep reading blue book’s material and taking practice tests till i reach the 780-800 range?

again, i have the test on may 4, and i really need to bring my math score up!

I don’t think “its pretty self explanatory if english is your first language…” is true. Yes, true to a certain degree. But are you getting 800 on writings all the time? SAT Writing is really about the tricks, and if you study for it, you don’t even need to read whole five choices to find out if it feels right or wrong. You spot one or two words in each question and pick it and move on. If you “have not been doing any prep for the writing section…” and not getting 800, (even 790), I seriously recommend you to study it.

Peace!

The problems I have are in pdf format. Hard to post directly here because there are pictures and diagrams. Maybe the best way to do it is to send the files through email and post solutions here?
