Hi my son is self studying for AP exam, can anyone tell me how I can register the exam for him? Thank you

At my kids’ high school, the GC would order the exam and proctor it.

My son’s high school would “host” the AP exams for the classes that were taught at our school. However, the various AP exams were also offered at neighboring schools. You do not (at least in Texas) have to be a student at a specific high school in order to take an AP exam there. If you check the AP exam schedule, you can pick your date and location for the specific AP exam you want to take.

Thank you, I contacted with the counselor, it seems she knowsnothing about it. The high school does have quite a lot AP courses / exams, but just not have the AP subject my son wants to take.

I’m pretty sure in all states you can take the test at a location that is offering the subject test even if the kid does not go to school there. Taking a test at your own school if the school does not offer the subject is often at the discretion of said school. Our school will order the test if it a straight-forward 3 hour sit at the desk and write and be proctored. If there’s special equipment involved (e.g. Japanese, Music Theory), then they may make you find a test center nearby that is already offering the test.

Thank you all, you are so helpful. I will check around and find a place for him to take the exam. Thank you

Call around your area and find a high school that offers the exam, and take it there. You will have to pay a test fee, usually about 30 dollars. Or you could call college board and ask them for help finding a location that offers the exam, you may need to travel for it.

?

She’s either playing dumb or she doesn’t want to pick up the phone and ask. All she has to do is contact Collegeboard and ask if she can order a test for a student. Collegeboard doesn’t require a school to teach the class in order for a test to be ordered.

Maybe she’s playing dumb because she doesn’t want to have to proctor it.

I highly doubt that a person can take an AP test at a site that is giving SAT subject tests. SAT subject tests are Saturday tests. AP tests can only be given on the assigned dates and the assigned “make up” dates to preserve integrity.
