Lately I’ve been thinking to transfer to a better university abroad(Canada, UK, or Ireland) or in US. So does amyone has an idea how universities accept transferring students whom are BOTH undeclared and coming from a liberal arts college?
Not sure why you think that transferring from a LAC to a ‘regular’ university is a problem- it isn’t. It’s an ordinary transfer.
Transferring as an undeclared (assuming that you are a first year?) is not a big deal either…unless you are prestige hunting & looking to go to top schools. The top schools will want to know why you want to attend them and what you are looking for that your current school can’t provide, which in turn suggests that you need to know what it is you are looking for (more than prestige).
UK and Irish universities do not typically accept transfer students at all: you have to start again. If you choose certain subjects in England (not Scotland) and Ireland the course will only be 3 years, so you could still finish in 4 years; otherwise you will have to add a 5th year of university. BUT: you apply to a specific major and that is ALL you study for the whole time. Ireland or the UK will only work for you IF you have figured out what you want to study.
Which brings us around to: making choices. In your other threads you have ping-ponged around interest areas- environmental engineering, environmental science, law, archaeology, architecture…You have also bounced around regions across Canada, the US, the UK.
One of the strengths of the US system is that (except for a few specializations such as engineering) you get the first year, and usually into the second year to try different subjects to determine what you want to study. Sometime during the second year, however, you are expected to settle on a major.
A number of other posters (especially the knowledgable @juillet) have responded to your posts with very thoughtful replies as to how you can combine interests, different paths you can take from the same major, how PhDs work in the US, etc. But other posters can only take you so far: you need to do the hard work of figuring out the path that looks like the best fit for you.
Good to see you again @collegemom3717 ! When looking back to my previous threads on making choices, your advices and surely Juillet’s guided my steps after (actually many points you previously mentioned were emphasized in my LAC courses and advising services!
Generally the Liberal Arts education helped me learn more about myself, strengths, and passions.
It’s going to be my second semester at thr American University in Cairo and I’m currently deciding mainly between Finance or Economics, Although I’m also going to experiment with a Biology course to decide if I should minor or possibly major in Env. Sci. Economics and Finance share the same courses in first year so around 60% of courses taken are from Buisness school!
I’n concerned about the liberal arts courses that I took in college, which by the end of my first semester they form 6 crdts (2 courses) of my courses. Ill take 2 more courses next semester. How will colleges deal with them?
Also do you have an idea about Canada or Australia? Will I have to start all over like UK and Ireland?
