How can i transfer from Mt sac to Cal state fullerton?

it takes two years to transfer from community college to a UC school, but what about a CSU? if i go to community college and transfer from there will it take only one year? i remember reading somewhere that you only need 60 college credits to transfer, and you can get 30 credits each semester, so does that mean it takes only a year? the reason why im asking this is because i want to go to CSU fullerton to major in nursing but my GPA is pretty low at a 2.65 with no AP classes or any extracirrucular so i might need to go to a community college first. plus im asian, which limits my options even more.

csu is only taking upper-division transfers so you need 60 units plus the golden four general ed classes. nursing is one of the most impacted majors at ANY school, and you need to have completed the pre-requisites for the major…which is usually anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and so on. each school is different so check with csuf what their nursing requirements are.

then you have to do really well on the teas test, and to be honest your gpa needs to be very high to get in unless you really ace the teas. i would think a 3.5 gpa or higher gives you a good chance, but with a 2.65 it’s impossible, especially at csuf (2nd most popular csu school after long beach). if you get all A’s at mt. sac though, you can bring up your gpa and have a good shot.

i’m not sure if you’re straight out of high school or whether that gpa is from community college. if it’s from high school, don’t worry about it and just get the highest grades possible from now on. they won’t even look at your high school grades as a transfer student. good luck

It also takes 2-3 years (roughly) to transfer to CSU. I don’t know about getting 30 units each semester, that’s about 7 classes each semester(all of which are 4 units). The cap is about 16 and I think you might have to petition to get that many. Besides, if you didn’t try hard in HS are you really ready to dive into 30 units right away? Let say you get 16 units for Spring and Fall, and 7(maximum) for Winter and Summer, that is still 46 a year so you will still be several units shy of transfer. I also go to Mt. Sac and am transferring this Fall, I got accepted into CSUF, SFSU, CSUN, CSULB and am waiting for all the UC decisons. I got into CSUF’s Communications/PR program which is also one of the most impacted majors there. I applied with a 3.55 GPA so it’s not too bad. This will be my 3’rd year at Mt Sac and I’ve been taking Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter semesters non-stop while working full time but I was taking prereq courses for a bunch of different schools so I racked up about 80 units.

But don’t worry about it. I did TERRIBLE in high school too. It’s been so long but I recall something like a 1.5 and I also went to Del Paso(don’t know if its still called that) continuation school for a year because of my grades. Just work hard at Mt. Sac and don’t get sucked into the “loser” community college crowd who are only at cc to be baby sat or keep on their parents insurance policy and you should be outa there in no time. =]

edit btw, I’m also Asian so I don’t think it hurts too much. LOL

Shabu: At Long Beach City College, the absolute cap is 21. You can only take 18 without permission. The last 3 units, you have to apply for a “unit waiver.” We don’t get a winter session and summer is capped at 9. The max you could do there is 51 in one year. It’s a really bad idea to try and max out, you’ll get burned out, FAST. Just take the normal 12-15. If you want to transfer in 2 years, then you will have to take 15; Most majors require you take your lower division classes before you transfer now. So, it ends up being your GE classes AND major classes (major classes can count toward GE or elective credit.)
Also, if you need remedial classes it will take you a bit longer. I took me three years, since I had to take 4 math classes. I screwed around one semester though, so I could have done it in 2.5. I also took summer classes.

I have a girl in my research methods class that said she maxed out not only at our school, but at another, AND worked full-time. 42 units at once?! Impossible. She disappeared really fast, besides the fact that this class requires a semester long project and I don’t think anyone would want to work with her (I wouldn’t want to.)

Just take your time, enjoy your classes, and absorb the knowledge…

iDizzle: Congrats on getting into so many schools! I was too cheap to apply to so many. I took my four free applications and called it quits. I applied to CSU Dominguez Hills, Long Beach, and Fullerton, as well as Cal Poly Pomona. I got into DH and Fullerton so far with a 3.75 GPA at time of application. I’m shocked that you already got your acceptance to CSULB. What major did you apply for there? I’m a psych major and LB told me I had to wait until May. Darn impacted programs

@ AnnabelxLee: Thanks! Congrats to you too! Yeah, I took the 4 free apps too =], but the UC’s also offer 4 free ones. I applied to 8 of the UC’s(all of them basically), so I got 4 UC’s free and paid for 4. I also applied as a comm major at CSULB. Does your app say that you’ve made it into the competitive round of decisions? You should be pretty well off than I think.

However, if I don’t get into the three 1st choices for UC than I have my eyes set on SFSU. I kind of hate to give up an opportunity at CSUF’s PR program, but I also don’t want to miss the opportunity to get out of the area =].

Oh, and your absolutely right about the burn out. It’s better to get less A’s than more C’s I always say =]
