How can my major affect my admissions?

<p>I posted this already im What Are My Chances? because a problem kept occuring when I entered the NYU forum…</p>

<p>I want to apply to CAS at NYU as a sociology major, by the way i am an African American female. does my major and ethnicity boost my chances at NYU, including all the other stuff (gpa, sats, ECs) which are good for nyu. if anyone knows the percentage of black people in the DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY, please share. ALSO, im passionate about NYU, and if I have to change my major I will to boost my chances. ofcourse im still going to keep it in Social Sciences because i find social sciences very interesting (plus im not that desperate) thanks!</p>

<p>Well I’ve read or heard somewhere that African American female applicants are a dime a dozen. I don’t think it will boost you that much because African American males are the applicants who get a lot of attention.</p>
