when they say 41,000s for oos and 21000s for in-state. how close is that estimate? I live in Maryland and I’m trying to see whether I might end up needing more or rather less

Pretty close for OOS, maybe a few thousand less. Depends on your meal plan, books, dorm etc. Will be more though once you factor in travel home, expense money, if you go greek etc.

you mean I might need less than 41,000? and I am not planning on going greek.

Last year, by the end of September I had paid $17323.79. I think that was it for the 1st semester, but can’t remember. I had the small meal plan. 2nd semester was about the same, but books were less. The 1st bill in the summer was due August 18, with another one due in September (must have been the book bill).

I came in 1k under the estimate as instate.

Pretty close. I choose to live in a dorm, which is the cheapest. My parents also denied UNC health insurance, we have our own. We got rid of the travel expensive and books and it came out to 36,000 I believe.
