How close is USC to UCLA?

I am just wondering because if I get into UCLA, I will have a friend that goes to USC. Also, is the UCLA campus nice and is the area around it safe?

I think they are about 25 mins apart (at least that’s what I remember from our visit to both last year). Yes the UCLA campus is very nice and the area around it is safe.

you’d have to be an Indy car (or hummer) to make it in 25 minutes during rush hour, however.
:)

Which campus is nicer?

USC BY FAR. OMG!!! SO GOOD! UCLA is great too, but wow did USC suprise me. I think its an ideal campus for anyone. When i went to check out usc the other day, it made me wanna go there instead of UCLA.

there’s less trafic around usc, but ucla and usc are probably less than 10 miles away.

I thought both USC and UCLA had great looking campuses. Visit both!

ucla and usc are both great campuses. however the area around usc is not the greatest, whereas westwood is very posh and wealthy

The UCLA campus is hilly but beautiful and Westwood/Bel-Air is shockingly upper-class.
Visit there first (unless you want to save the best for last).

I love the UCLA campus and have issues with the USC campus immediately outside the vicinity of Exposition Park. The fact is that UCLA has generally less traffic than USC during the day and the neighborhood around UCLA is much more upscale and safe. USC’s campus is all brick with cardinal red and gold everywhere. If brick is what you want, go to USC. For a more traditional campus feel, go to UCLA.

The mileage between the two campuses isn’t that great (between 10-20 miles) but with traffic the drive can be anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour and a half.

I think UCLA’s campus kicks butt over USC’s – and I think UCLA is very well located despite being close to Bel Air and Beverly Hills, not because of it.

UCLA has a ton of brick too

" If brick is what you want, go to USC. For a more traditional campus feel, go to UCLA."

What?? They both have Romanesque (read: brick) architecture!

OK, everyone, let’s not get into a fight YET AGAIN about the two schools. To each their own. I personally have prefered USC’s campus since day one.

indy- You’re never going to get a single answer here. You would have to see them both yourself and get your own opinion.

Oh, and the campuses are pretty close, miles-wise, but with LA traffic it could take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.

Yup…405 freeway stretch…just thinking about it gives me a headache.

Both campuses are really nice; it’ll come down to atmosphere…whether at heart you’re a Trojan or a Bruin.

For me, I stepped onto UCLA’s campus and I fell in love with it; I loved everything about it (even Bunche Hall… ); at USC, though the campus was nice, I didn’t quite feel the same way.

Try to imagine yourself at those campuses when you visit. If you feel uncomfortable, it’s a good hint that the campus may not be right for you.

if hanging out with your friends from the other school is what you were looking for in the beginning, then yes, that is quite possible if one of you guys have a car. westwood is a popular location to hang out for both. but there are a ton of places (and parties) to go to in los angeles in general that are near both UCLA and USC.
