How cold is it at UIUC?

…relative to other regional areas like the Northeast

my mother thinks it’s as cold as Ann Arbor, MI…but i don’t believe her

Somewhat comparable to the upper Northeast but can have more variance from year to year and more extremes – some years you can get 80 inches of snow, some less than 20, some years 25 days below zero, some years it hardly ever even gets down to 10. You tend to have more days that are both cold and very windy – these are the flat plains; there are no mountains or hills to slow the prevailing winds. And it is actually comparable to Ann Arbor although it tends to get warmer in spring a little earlier than Ann Arbor and stay warmer a little longer in the fall…

UIUC and UMICH are both really cold. If you lived in both campuses, you probably wouldn’t notice much of a difference.

Ann Arbor is probably colder than Urbana-Champaign if you went by actual temperature statistics, but at a certain point, cold is just plain cold.

Agreed with harri, welcome to the Midwest
