The guy who won is ok…I don’t see the big deal with him though…

Someone mentioned on the air that perhaps a lot of people would have had trouble with her having to work in Las Vegas for a year.

Also, there may have been the sympathy vote for Michael Grimm because his grandparents raised him and then they lost “everything” in Katrina. Additionally, some may have felt that he “paid his dues” and a ten year old has not done so.

Frankly, I thought that Jackie Evancho should have won.

Sounds reasonable to me…

Just like last year, Barbara Padilla should have won, but the top honors went to off-key singing unemployed chicken farmer.

This show should either get rid of the whole “headline show in Vegas” promise or do not accept singers. Of all the past winners, only one has a show in Vegas (an amazing one, according to my friend) - the only non-singing winner. DH and I are planning a trip to Vegas to see his show.

I for one am very happy that the little girl did not win. She needs to be a little girl and grow up and develop her gift slowly and carefully. Take her time, as Sarah Brightman said as well. It was lovely to hear her, though.

Jackie will have a great career ahead of her. I would bet she will be offered a roll on Broadway within a month and will have so many other opportunities that she will have to turn more away that accept.

Besides having a wonderful voice, she was cute as a button and so personable.

She reminds me of Charlotte Church.

The only Vegas-worthy finalst was Fighting Gravity. I really liked their stuff, but these guys will be much better off with their engineering degrees than with a Vegas show and 1/20 th of a whatever is left of a million dollars after tax :)

Many fans of the show feel like the producers were shoving Jackie Evancho down their throats. The other acts had been competing for several weeks, while she skated in rather late in the process as a result of “youtube auditions”. Some even feel like she was a plant (already has recorded CD’s, was already booked at Carnegie Hall in December, etc.)

It was nothing but a repeat of last year.

The amazing opera singer vs. the okay-but-rather-average insert “modern” music genre here singer.

Same deal. Same outcome. Only one person that’s won this show wasn’t a singer (granted, one was an opera singer, and a good one), and he was a ventriloquist, I believe. Personally, I don’t think Michael Grimm will go too far. I just don’t find him memorable at all.

He was mostly sob-story, in my opinion.

He was “okay,” but I’m still annoyed that America is stuck on American Idol and apparently doesn’t see much worth in other “talents.” The only finalist that deserves a Vegas show is Fighting Gravity. Prince Poppycock gets second in that department because of how showy his performances are. They’re real eye-catching performances, not just plain singing, which I find rather boring to watch over and over.

Jackie deserves to be in many shows, but I don’t think Vegas is the right setting for an opera singer. I believe there are much better venues to be appreciated as an opera singer, and I’m sure she’ll be in a few of those places.

As for Grimm, well, we’ll see, but I just don’t find him worthy of too much praise…he seems like a regular, mundane singer to me.

Personally, I loved Michael Grimm, and will probably buy an album when he gets a new one out (and I never do that, BTW). As far as “showman”, Prince Poppycock was the bomb - and he was pretty hot without the make-up too. He’s one I would go to see.

Rixs, I agree - either get rid of the whole “show in Vegas” carrot, or do not let kids, opera singers, and other non-Vegas types compete (although Sarah Brightman had a show in Vegas).

Yes, and he was amazing. His name is Terry Fator, and his Vegas show is doing quite well:

Prince was fun to watch, but I’m not sure I’d want to watch him for 2 hours. Combined with a couple of other acts, he’d be a great Vegas addition.

While Jackie has an amazing voice, she really doesn’t have much showmanship or connection with an audience. Go back and watch her performances, every one is almost identical in everything but the choice of song. I think this is because of her age – like Sarah Brightman indicated, she needs time to develop and mature not just her voice, but her presentation skills.

I thought that of the four acts, she was the most talented, but needs the most time to mature, Fighting Gravity was the most Vegas act, Michael Grimm was the most polished and stage ready, and Prince Poppycock, while fun, was the act that would get old the fastest.

Agree 100% with lololu. America votes, and it doesn’t want to hear a 10yo opera prodigy for 90 minutes in Vegas.

BTW, saw Poppycock on Leno last night as part of a Ross schtick.

None of the contestants in any year really sang opera, I think this show is really belittling real opera by confusing it with classical crossover, a genre Brightman brought to international attention and does so well and so beautifully, but it is just not opera.

I agree, Drelnis. Jackie Evancho is as much an “opera singer” as Andrea Bocelli is an opera singer. The comparison with Charlotte Church BunsenBurner writes above is excellent. I vomit a little each time I hear someone refer to her as an “opera singer”.

However, this does not mean that Jackie is not talented nor is her voice extremely beautiful. But a real “opera singer”? Nope, not even close.

Poppycock, underneath all that makeup, is a very strikingly good looking guy [Prince Poppycock America’s Got Talent - John Quale - Prince Poppycock Pictures, Biography, News](http://www.poptower.com/prince-poppycock-john-quale-americas-got-talent.htm)

^He looks like such a regular guy under all the makeup. xD I like his character though. I would definitely watch a show with him in it, though he’d be best to get into like…a group of performers and be part of a bigger show.

I actually really liked Michael Grimm and wanted him to win. I thought he had that special something about him that could translate into a good career.

I loved Jackie but …could there be an act less Vegas? I thought she had great presence and big “twinkle”. Still shouldn’t have won…

Fighting Gravity? With a Vegas budget and rehearsal time…they have the most immediate potential of a successful Vegas run and IMO the creative headroom to make a go of it. They should have won.

I finally watched the little so-called “opera singer” on youtube. I found it extraordinarily distressing. I don’t know where to begin.
Young people, with the “right” (by that I mean wrong) training and with manipulative artificial amplification can mimic any number of sounds. THIS IS NOT OPERA. This is just the sad manipulation of a kid who might have had a a chance, but whose voice will be destroyed by this sort of unhealthy singing. Ever heard Charlotte Church lately?

Also—I keep hearing the words beautiful and huge attached to her voice. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH. Go on youtube and listen to any number of real unamplified opera singers. Bryn Terfl, Cecilia Bartoli, Joyce DiDonato …there are a few places to start.
