California can be partly regarded as an independent system, lonely, but shiny, standing on the west coastline of the United States of America. As an undergraduate with an Economics Major from University of Southern, what will I face after 4-year study?

**Compete with Geniuses from Stanfrod & Caltech? (even Berkerly) **These two schools have the greatest academic reputation in US, and students there are succulent prey for the greatest companies and institutions. Two applicants, one is from Stanford and one is from USC, with same major, same GPA… who will those bosses choose? The guy from Stanford probably!

Asian can be a nightmare? Oh, Asians, tons of asian, esp. Chinese in california. It seems obvious that they have better math skills, they are more diligent, they have higher GPA, they seem even condescending, they have their own groups, some are extremely rich. I’m afraid that they will top other students and laugh to the end!!!

Rumor of “Spoiled Rich Kids”? It is said that USC is also famous for its extravagence, maybe we can have a glance from her glitzy admission package~ Some comments say that students in USC care more on their clothing, drive limousines; parties there are rather luxury(I’m an international student, and those are all what I have read on the web, or from others) The Academic atmosphere is not as strong as UCB and UCLA…my holly god!!!

Who can tell me what’s the future of USC students when they step into the real society? As an admitted freshman, I can’t accept those horrible thing if they are true!!! USC is my dream school anyway!!!

haha i’m objecting to ur asian comment! I’m an incoming Chinese freshman, i really really suck at math (arts and social sciences FTW!!), and my grades are not at all impressive, i am NOT condescending and I like to socialise with lots of different groups and i am totally NOT rich (really have to get a scholarship to finish all 4 yrs). but i do like to top other students and laugh to the end HAHA (well i mean who doesn’t want to be the best lol)

anw, I’m really anxious about going to USC too, cos I’m international and have never stepped a foot into US before, and I’m not rich and glittery like LA is. Really really hope i can gain lots of new friends out there :S

well wish you all the best!!! maybe we’ll meet on campus :))

Caltech doesn’t really have much of an undergraduate program. They are well-known for their graduate school. Yes, stanford has a good program. The name doesn’t mean as much as you think it means though, not if you’re preparing yourself correctly. You need to stand out from the other thousand applicants for whatever position you’re applying for, and that means projects, clubs/groups, leadership positions, possibly research, etc.

All those other schools you list have the same “problem”, only worse. It’s not like being asian means you’re automatically better. Nobody can coast through undergrad on mere “intelligence”. You need discipline, hard work, social skills, etc to succeed.

There are rich people at USC. There are also poor people. Obviously the rich people will be more visible because they’re driving expensive cars, or have expensive toys, clothes, etc. Anyways, the rumors you read about those “extravagant parties” are mostly untrue. Yes, people have expensive parties. No, they’re not on (or anywhere near) campus.
