Even if you apply to it during the winter or fall and miss school on purpose for one semester, would that still got guarantee a spot? I mean… I’m graduating 1 semester later just for this internship where you’re not even paid.

Would that still be very competitive? Please don’t just say it’s hard, that’s very vague.
I’m asking people who got some information about this internship, and people who have actually done it, or even people who got rejected (any opinions). Thanks!

I don’t know what the acceptance rate is of the White house internship but I do know must other Government Internships are a lot less competitive in the fall and spring than in the summer. Some senators offices get around 800 applications for some internship sessions in the summer, with most accepting around 10-15 of those who applied. In the fall and spring I imagine it goes down to half that number. I took a semester off for an Internship I am currently doing and I do not regret it in the slightest, but I am graduating on time because of extra credits I built up.

good luck!

… do you see the huge thread on WH internships on this page? I suggest looking through that. My somewhat educated guess is under 10% of the applicants get accepted, and it is likely much smaller than that (under 5%). It is likely true that it is less selective during the semesters vs. the summer. But still extremely difficult.

I participated in an internship program in the federal government (unpaid) that had 350 applicants for 12 spots. For the summer interns, they got 500+ applicants for the same amount of spots.
