How competitive is my school if...

How competitive is my school if the college entrance rate is 99.8% over the last 5 years, and from an average yearly gradualting class of 70, about 2 get into HYPS, 3 get into the other ivies, 5 get into top unis (Georgetown, JHU, NU, etc). Plus, the average student takes about 2-3 APs by graduation (10 APs are offered).
I personally think my school is very uncompetitive, but I’d like to know how colleges would evaluate the context of my school based on the numerical stats.

It is more competitive than mine, that much I can tell you.

Unless you’re comparing to Andover or Exeter, I’d say it’s pretty good. is it public or private? consider this: admissions to any ivy league border on once a decade at my school (yikes!). it’s not quite there, but almost (a couple more do go to top schools on the East Coast, but the majority of over-achievers go to Berkeley).

Take this into consideration - at the high school I attend, we have about 40-45% get into any college. Many high schools are in this boat. America has a serious problem with its secondary education system.

Ya, my school’s graduation rate is around 60% (urban), saying nothing about college admissions

That’s very competitive. A 99.8% college entrance rate? Jesus.

My school is pretty well-regarded, with a dropout rate of exactly zero over the past several years, and even we only send roughly 80% of our grads to college (including community college). We send 1 or 2 kids to the Ivies every year, and maybe 5 others to top-tier schools, out of a class of 120. Probably only a third of the kids even take one AP class, though those at the top do load up on them. I consider my school reasonably competitive, but judging by this, your school is way out of our league.

a good highschool. But everything is measured relative to how many opportunities you take versus how many opportunities are offered.

That’d be considered very competitive.

Some on this site don’t think that a school is competitive unless it sends many off to HYPS each year, but in comparison to the vast majority of schools, your high school is among the top in competitiveness (in admissions, that is).

My school offers only four science classes (Living Environment, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Biology for seniors) and they offer Physics every other year.
There are absolutely no honors/AP classes offered at my school. There are a couple college-classes offered in the high school that are done through the local community college.
In any case, you can tell that my school is not competitive in the least. I’d say about 85-90% of the kids who go to college go to a local community college. NO one in the history of my school has gotten into an ivy league school… I will probably be the first
I personally took every possible class that I could, whether it would aid my future major or not (in most case, not). My guidance counselor looked at my transcripts and wrote that I am taking the most difficult curriculum he’s ever seen in his 20 year career. My high school curriculum is, honestly, a joke compared to most of the kids who post here.
From my experience, I have realized that taking advantage of the classes that your school does offer will go along way, so take this for what it’s worth

Sounds pretty competitive based on what I’ve seen. Though, there are a few more competitive ones (eg. mines, where the average student graduates with 5 APs)

my school FORCES every kid to take two AP classes in senior year. Seriously, they only offer APs senior year
