How Competitive is Pitt Really???

I’ve read that the Fall 10 acceptance rate was 58%. That’s about 6 out of every 10 applicants. Compared to Other school’s in the area how competitive is it?

What’s your intended field of study? You can’t always go by the overall acceptance rate.

State schools, except for the top few, generally have higher acceptance rates. I agree that it depends on your major.

Here’s a generic, but very VERY thorough, breakdown of the admissions statistics from the 2010-2011 school year.

http://www.ir.pitt.edu/cds/documents/CDS2010-11PittsburghCampus.pdf

Probably Medicine or physical therapy, but more likely Medicine.

Neither of these is an undergraduate program. Technically one can major in any number of fields and still apply to medical school afterwards. What most people do is take the courses which help them prepare for the MCAT (in Bio, Chemisty, Physics, etc) but it can be within a wide range of majors. For PT, go to the Pitt website and there is a list of courses you need to have taken before applying to the program:
[SHRS: Physical Therapy](http://www.shrs.pitt.edu/PT.aspx?id=322&nav=346)

Acceptance % can be one of the most deceiving stats because it ignores the quality of students in the applicant pool.

As far as the “area”, I’m not sure what that means. If you are talking about Western Pennsylvania, then Pitt is the most selective school after Carnegie Mellon going by admissions statistics like SAT, class rank and GPA.

As a pre-health sciences major, you really aren’t going to find a better places, as long as you don’t mind the mid-range size of the university and the urban environment. The opportunities at Pitt for bioscience and health science pre-professionals are unmatched anywhere else in Pennsylvania until you get to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
