am a college student that is attending a large university. One of my professors recommended me to be a potential candidate for the Student Affairs Advisory Board, which works with the President and Vice President of the university. The one problem is that I do not have much campus involvement at this point, and I doubt I would even get the position. One of the questions on the application is, “What is a way that you can advocate for students’ needs if you’re selected as a member of the board?” I am not sure what I can do to help advocate for students’ needs? I would really appreciate everybody’s input and assistance! Thank you so much!
What do you think the professor sees in you that he/she would recommend that you apply for this position? Your answer to this question may answer yours.
Google e Student Affairs Advisory Board, to get an idea of what one does. For Clemson, for example:
The primary purpose of this group is to make suggestions on ways to increase student learning and improve student life at Clemson. The Board meets at least monthly with Student Affairs administrators as well as other top University officials to discuss various issues related to both the University and the city. The meetings are hosted by the Vice President for Student Affairs who requests input, opinions, and recommendations from the variety of student members who express different aspects of student interest. Student Affairs Student Advisory Board members are well-informed on issues at the University, and they are expected to share this information with other students before and after meetings to gauge and convey campus-wide student opinion.
