What the title says. If, let’s say, I wrote a poem for the “Why Rice” essay prompt, would admissions look down on it? I know that Emory doesn’t want any out of the box essay formats so I was wondering about Rice. Thanks. :)

I say stick to the essay. I wouldnt risk giving them a poem when they ask for an essay o.O

I don’t think it’s too risky. I’d say go for it.

Well I wasn’t planning on writing a poem, but more like… a letter, or an article from a newspaper, or a diary entrance so they’re still be in essay form. But I was just wondering if there was a limit on creative formats.

Oh and for one of my essays, I’m talking about an object that Americans don’t know about. Can I include a picture to show them what I’m talking about?

Would admissions be mad if I called to confirm? D:

Of course they won’t be mad go ahead and call

I think that’s a good idea to use some creative formats, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to include a picture unless you REALLY HAVE TO. Pictures can be very distracting for the OAs, and they might fail to appreciate your ideas if they are too attracted by the picture.

A friend of mine who was accepted last year submitted a poem for one of the supplemental essays. Just saying. ;)
