Just got kid’s snapshot results, and he got an emerging in teamwork, developing in two, and demonstrating in the other 4 areas. This is not accurate at all. My kid loves working with his classmates and offered lots of help. He’s very frustrated, coz he thinks that’s not him, and he’s also afraid all his effort would be meaningless now. He’s be working really hard for the application. The school we’re applying requires the snapshot, so we have to submit it. How bad is it? We’d like to have an honest view, and kind of have the right expectation. Thanks for the help~~
My DD also got emerging in teamwork which i found very surprising. We are not submitting unless it is mandatory.
Either way I would not worry too much about ‘one’ emerging.
I don’t know any schools that take that thing seriously. I sat with my son as he took it and I think it’s hard to “do well” unless you are dishonest and answer in a contradictory way every other question.
I wouldn’t worry about it at all. If you are worried call your AO and talk to them about it. The more feedback they get that the test is absurd the less they will place value in it.
We’re in the same boat. Only one of the schools to which kiddo is applying “highly recommends” submitting the results. I would prefer not to because I really question the validity of this test. My kiddo is extremely thougtful, socially adept, “thinks before speaking” and has never had a disciplinary issue of any kind yet got emerging in the Self Control category. It just seems grossly inaccurate.
Thanks for all the replies~~Yeah I found this test really ridiculous. And with the school that requires it, guess I’ll call AO to check out the role the snapshot plays during the admission process…
Last year I spoke to an AO about it (at the one school that requires it) and was told “we are kind of testing it out…collecting data but not using it in decisions.”
I was wholly unconcerned despite my son doing “badly” by the standards of people worried about the test. It was actually brought up by the ao who wanted to know what I thought of the test. I was very candid that I thought it was pretty absurd because of the way the questions are presented.
I do understand it’s hard not to worry but still. Don’t worry.
LOL. Thanks for understanding! I know I shouldn’t worry too much, but just couldn’t help it…
yeah… i got emerging/developing in all of the categories (:
Just remembered the conversation below at one of our interviews at a school that shall remain nameless…
Me: How much weight is given to the Character Snapshot?
AO: What’s that?
Me: The Character Snapshot taken online via the SSAT website
AO: I’m sorry I’m new to this and have no idea what you are referring to.
?
We chose not to apply to the school but for other reasons
Please do not sweat about this!! Thanks for sharing the above scenario, however.
