How debt is UPenn worth?

I was accepted ED to University of Pennsylvania and with the current financial package it looks like I would have to take up to 90k in loans. I plan to double major in English and International Relations in the College of Arts and Sciences. Is 80-90k in debt worth a UPenn education?

Other options I’m considering are a 25k scholarship in the Tulane Honors Program with a possible full scholarship. I was also planning on applying to GW, American, BU, Johns Hopkins, and Tufts if I was not accepted to UPenn.

Simply put - No!

Bumppppppp

With $90K loan, here’s what you agree to:

$1037/month for 10 years or
$687/month for 20 years or
$586/month for 30 years

I hope you like public transportation/used cars and apartment living for a long time.

If you were my kid, I’d prohibit you from taking out $90K blanketly.

I would make sure you understand what the financial aid/scholarships really are at those other schools. They are never as high as every claims they are. For example BU gives many highly qualified applicants a 50% scholarship but very few get the full tuition and then that doesn’t cover room and board. Many of the others on your list do not give merit aid at all.
