With my awkward walrus-stroke I think I can pass the swim test. But I’m worried about the water depth. If it’s six and a half feet or so, that’s cool. If it’s much deeper, old near-drowning memories will be conjured up and that won’t be fun. Anyone know how deep the pool is?

You’re allowed to wear a life-jacket. And to use any Styrofoam animal-shaped apparatus your heart desires. It’s not a Phelpic event. The trick is to go to a late session with friends and make a fun event out of it. Slow and steady, etc…

win.

I heard it was pretty much a joke.

Whether the swim test is Phelpic or whether it’s a joke has never been in doubt. For anyone who cares, the water depth varies from 5’8 to 13’0.

Someone also told me you can just stay in the kiddie section and walk/bounce through (provided you’re not a midget) but i’m not sure about that one.

The girl at my info session said you can literally just float back and forth. They just want to know you have the ability to swim, not that you are amazing at it.

@Lion Headed, I’m pretty sure (but don’t quote me on this) that Columbia has an Olympic-sized swimming pool. In that case, there would be no kiddie section, it would be of uniform depth. Also, in regard to the original question, I would assume that would be quite deep, considering Michael Phelps, who stands proudly at 6’4". does not have half of his body sticking out in the water. Actually, he is generally treading water. I would assume the water is 8’ deep, but I am probably VERY wrong. However, I am almost sure you will not be able to safely stand under the water, unless you can breathe underwater.

Just get some gillyweed. That’s what I’m gonna do. Duh. :D.

when is the earliest we can take this
