How did Yeshiva do it?

How are they in the top 50?

It did it by investing its money with Bernie Madoff of course.

east coast bias

^^ or maybe it’s just a good school?
Honestly, if there were east coast bias, it wouldn’t explain why schools like northwestern, Stanford, Caltech, WashU and UChicago continually rank highly in US News.

You mean while schools like Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State and New Mexico get perpetually under-ranked?

^^ and how are you so certain that they are underranked? If anything, you could claim a “private school” bias, but not a regional bias.

In terms of why there are more east-coast schools in the top 50 or top 100, it is simply because there are more schools concentrated in this region than elsewhere and for obvious reasons.

Oh yeah, right there in the methodology: “10% of ranking - How many miles is the college from Massachusetts?”
