Say, you got a 70 on a quiz that you studied hard for and were really confident on. How would you cope with that?
You are a senior who has been accepted to college so one quiz isn’t a huge deal. Still as with any exam I would figure out what the errors were – if it was carelessness then be more careful next time, if it was an underlying lack of understanding of the material then deal with it appropriately (ex. see teacher for extra help, use online resources, get a tutor etc.).
@happy1 But if it’s a chain of quizzes, then it becomes a concern. That’s why I asked.
If you’re working hard and still receiving low marks, go to your teacher and ask to go over the quiz to see what you did wrong so you can learn from it. In the future, prior to any upcoming quizzes, you can go to your teacher and ask what materials would be on it so that you can hone in on those topics, rather than focusing on topics that won’t be on the exam.
Which is why I replied.thst if you did not do well on the one quiz because you don’t understand the material then you should take steps such as the ones I described above.
If I took a quiz and got a score that I didn’t particularly like, I see it as a learning experience. I learn from what I did wrong and try to not to make that mistake again. I see if I missed a step anywhere or misread the prompt. I know that one quiz is not going to majorly affect me. It’s not the end of the world.
However, if it is a trail of quizzes that I am messing up on, then I would go up to my teacher or friend to ask for help and clarification. See if you can do any extra credit that will bump your grade up. Teachers are there to help you, but if you don’t want to go up to them, then ask a friend who knows the material to help you.
Hope that helped in any way!
I read John Taylor Gatto’s books and speeches.
- try not to get upset or discouraged and remind myself that I can always improve on future quizzes, tests, assignments, etc. and that grades do not define me
- figure what I did wrong
- learn from my mistakes and completely understand the concepts that I didn't get
- take notes and redo the problems in a pen or different color (to distinguish original from corrected)
- also, if helpful, I will explain how I corrected my mistake (especially in math/science) so that, if I forget how to do that problem in the future, my explanation will help me remember
