How did you like Princess Beatrice’s wedding gown?

I thought it was beautiful, except I didn’t like how they tried to remake the sleeves using the straps. It looked like a do-over with that. I see where they tried to tie it in around the arm, (mi icing the straps), but it still didn’t do it for me. She could have made it strapless, then added sheer material above and did something else. She also could have taken the straps and made a halter.

I thought it was sweet she wore the Queen’s gown And crown though and wanted her grandparents there. Who knows what could happen if they had waited. I’d love to see the rest of the guests.

I liked the dress and tiara because it was a nice connection to her grandmother. The dress would probably not have worked on most brides. But, very vintage and attractive in its own way, fitting for this occasion. The Queen and Prince looked great at 94 and 99!

I didn’t realize that was her grandmother’s gown. I loved it. Different.

I thought the queen wore it better and that the original without the sleeves looked nicer ; )

Yes! Different but in a nice way. It fit the occasion and the bride.

I looked at the sleeves for a long time, then saw the dress without them, and decided they were okay for this occasion. Overall, liked it but wondered just how many dresses the queen has saved to have this one from 60 years ago and just know it was the right one for this occasion.

Flowers were gorgeous, groom looked nice. I thought it was perfect.

I thought the dress was a beautiful surprise. I didn’t examine the look of the new sheer short sleeves that closely but I think the original straps needed some improvement. This couple really made the best of a difficult situation.
One of the many critical articles about Meghan said was that she had insisted on using a tiara that Beatrice had already chosen so Beatrice needed to make another choice. Not sure if this was true but getting to wear the Queen’s (and grandma and great grandma’s) wedding tiara was even better.

Now I see that the new sheer sleeves don’t seem to be connected to the original straps so there is skin showing between the strap and the new sleeve? Strange but overall the dress was very nice.

I looked at several photos and I think the sleeves connect to the strap with a layer of sheer fabric ( organza?). To me the puffy tops on the sleeves look childish but may be accurate for the ‘60s when the gown was made. I thought the band of heavier fabric had been added because Beatrice is much taller than the queen but it must have been the part brushing the ground and holding out that poofy hem treatment of the original skirt.

I loved the original gown but disliked the new sleeves and wasn’t crazy about the choice for the additional fabric at the bottom of the skirt. The poofy sleeves didn’t go with the rest of the look, but I am guessing that covering her shoulders was mandated on this occasion. Finding another way to do it would have been nice. The use of a satin-look fabric for the bottom reminded me of the trim on a blanket.

Regarding the tiara - the Meghan issue was (allegedly) that Meghan had ‘demanded’ to wear an emerald tiara that had been promised to Eugenie for her wedding. So Meghan had to ‘settle’ for another tiara. Not saying I believe that to be true, but it was what the tabloids wanted us to think.

Interesting that the tiara that Meghan wore was to be for Beatrice. If that is true, then the Queen made things right by letting Beatrice wear the tiara she was married in. Good job!

I thought that the dress, the tiara and the flowers were spectacular.

I think that important dresses that the Queen wore are saved for historical purposes. It was a big deal to have Beatrice wear such an important dress.

^ I may have mixed up my royals and the tiara story in #9 is correct. It was Eugenie and Meghan who were planning weddings around the same time.

I don’t like the hem of the original dress. It looks like Jiffy pop.

I don’t like the new sleeves. They are too puffy for my taste. Look childish like a Disney princess.

What’s up with that new hem? They de-puffed the original and folded up or they cut and added the new hem? I like the silhouette of the new dress but cannot ignore the difference in color (or material) at the bottom.

Overall, I think I like the new dress better. I really don’t like the original puffy hem. Oh the flower arch is gorgeous!!

I still overall like the dress because of the historical aspect and think it was very appropriate for that setting. A simpler cap type sleeve might have been more to my liking but you can’t win with this. No matter what you do, there will always be critics. Congratulations and best wishes to Beatrice and her dashing new husband!

I think Beatrice looked beautiful in the dress and the tiara. I’m not crazy about the puff sleeves but they’re OK. The bodice of the dress is gorgeous and I like the bottom better the new way than the original way.
I loved that she was able to wear these borrowed items. Actually I think she wore Grandma’s dress more successfully than any of my friends or family who wore mother’s wedding dress!
And it is fun to see these pictures. I am not a super duper fan of the royal family but it’s still entertaining to see gorgeous dresses like this. A nice little break from reality!

I read that the sleeves were a nod to Sarah Ferguson’s (her mother’s) dress. Puffy sleeves were all the rage in the 80’s.

I thought it all looked smashing - the dress, crown, groom and his attire, the flowers, etc. Nothing to nitpick.

The dress had to be lengthened as Beatrice is much taller than QE. I thought the puffy sleeves looked odd, but perhaps sleeveless wasn’t allowed in the chapel (I couldn’t wear my dress off of my shoulders in the church way back when). The idea of a throwback to her mother’s dress is interesting.

I take everything written in the tabloids about Meghan with a huge grain of salt. Probably goes for the entire family as well.

It is not what I would have picked for myself, but I really thought she looked fabulous and I really loved the pictures.

I loved it! I found the sleeves to be a great match for her charming personal vibe, and seeing her pay tribute to the Queen on what could be one of the last occasions her grandparents are able to attend together was very touching.
