Initials from the Girl Scout camp I went to for 12 years + my staff name from when I was a counselor there. Didn’t fully realize the implications of picking a screen name – may have gone with something else if I did. But, too late to change – it would mess up my post count! :)

My girl scouts called me Crabby (affectionately I think!) so I didn’t want to use that CBBlinker. Mine is what my good girlfriends call me, stems from an old job I had where everyone got called by their initials. I’ve been “EB” to a lot of people for a long time but when you are happy or mad at me it’s ebeeeee!

ooops. posted here following a CC student and didn’t realize it was the parents’ cafe. edited to remove my post. sorry :)

no worries…you can post here as long as you keep it clean for us old folks.

Scout: Best. Cat. Ever.

Also, I’m a sucker for “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

I’m an “older parent,” though always young at heart. In elementary school my son once proudly announced, “You’re the oldest mom in my class.” (I wasn’t–there were four or five of us, and one woman is literally two days older!) Thank goodness it was a badge of honor for him at the time.

In the college process, I really felt like a geezer, because some of my longtime friends were becoming (young) grandparents at the same time!

Well there was this Buffett concert(where loud music reigns) and a priest(a friend and fellow concert goer) and the slightly drunk young man(who helped us get the tickets) … who upon introductions got it all mixed up and I was identified as “sister sunnie” and it stuck. Essentially I was mistaken for a nun at a Buffett concert… any guesses who the designated driver was that evening!

^^^Voted best screenname story.

And here I’d always entertained the faint hope it had something to do with colleges hopping.

Where’s the Peruvian mom when you need her?

TheDad: did you mean mom of 2 Inca? That’s IMO the best example of a somewhat generic name becoming a cool name. It took me a while to figure out that she had 2 kids in CA!

I second aibarr’s vote for the best screen name story :)

Mine was taken from a town of historical significance near where my favorite aunt/uncle lived, plus the cryptic number from a beer brewed in that state. (Only two CCers know who I really am, and I doubt my screen name will compromise my identity further!)

mine refers to the term “starcross’d”, referring to “a situation in which one or more individuals attempts to defy fate.” Introduced and made famous by one William Shakespeare. Because he is my hero.

BB, yes, I was always hoping to see photos of the kids in their feathers-and-gold headdresses.

I’m an anarchist… Which means I’m not an anti-anarchist; hence the term “nonantianarchist” :)

I live in Seattle- which for some reason was called " the emerald city", ( probably cause the moss turns every thing green), and at the time we had two cats.

H says I should have picked Jet City since he works at Boeing, but I like Emeraldkity even though a green cat sounds a little too Hello Kitty for me.

My kids picked my screen name. I am a bond analyst and they identify me with my career. That bothers me, so I don’t like this screen name but once chosen I guess you are stuck. I would like something like “willow.” I use blue willow china, enjoyed reading The Wind in the Willows and wish I were thin like a willow (but am not).

NewHope33

Nice nod to the glass-lined tanks of old Latrobe.

Well, I wish this thread hadn’t died. I think it might even be a good idea for it to be stickied, so new members could just add to it.

I have wondered how oldfort chose hers for a while, and found out by reading this thread, but there are several other screen names that I would like to understand. Curmudgeon? Mantori.Suzuki? Mantori, tell the truth or bite rocks, neh?

I also thought I was only going to ask a couple questions, and I actually left for some months, but came back. I wish I had chosen “AugustusMcCrae,” or “AnjinSan”, or something like that. I think it might have made other posters remember a favorite book, and remind me of one of my favorite characters. I still might change my screen name to Henry DeTamble.

I usually stink at screen names. I go through fits picking fantasy football teams. This was the name of a little restaurant near my first apartment umpty-ump years ago. While college ‘shopping’ we stopped off the highway for gas and found ourselves right next to this little place. It may not seem exciting, but it reminds me of a time when everything was fresh and new. Now I’m sending my kids on that same journey.
