How difficult is it to get accepted to NYU?

I am asking this because I always viewed NYU as a difficult school to get accepted to. But according to College Board’s Big Future NYU accepted 44% with a 3.75+, 15% with a 3.5-3.74, and 30% with 3.25-3.49. I just wanted to know how accurate this is. So if I am in 3.25-3.49 category am I match with NYU, assuming I have good scores and EC’s? Thanks in advance and sorry for any typos

Depends on what school in NYU your applying to.

Hi, you are looking at that wrong. They did not accept 44% of those with a 3.75+ gpa, 44% of the incoming class is composed of people who had a 3.75+ gpa. Likewise for the other numbers.

You need solid grades and test scores to get into NYU, as well as money. Though NYU is need blind, there cost of attendance is now 71k and they do not meed full need.

Thanks

NYU is not a match. Also, they may give out scholarships, but not nearly enough to make up for the high cost of attendance, relative to other schools.

Their average GPA is still around a 3.7 though. So being in the 3.25-3.49 range doesn’t really mean you’re a match for NYU, more of a reach. You’d need the rest of your profile to make up for it, ie, good test scores, good ECs, good essays, all of that.

Based on the information you posted 59% of those admitted have a 3.5 or greater GPA so you’re already starting from the back of the pack. However, if you look at section C7 in their Common Data Set they use many attributes for admission. http://www.nyu.edu/ir/pdf/cds/CDS_2013-2014%20UPDATED.pdf Also look at section H2 in the CDS. It shows the school only meets 60% of need and they have an average $7K self help requirement on top of the $5K loan. Bad financial aid.
