I’ve always considered UT to be my “safety” school, but since I want to get a B.Arch, I’m not automatically admitted. I’m a little worried that I wont get into any of the programs I apply to (Cornell and Rice being my other top choices). Should I consider other safeties? And how hard is it to be admitted into UT B.Arch if I’m in-state, ranked top 1% of my class, have solid ECs and decent testing scores?

It is a tough program to get into, but being in the top 1% I would think with good test scores you should get in. The last time I talked with staff they said that they had 1600 applicants, only 800 of which were accepted into the university, and from those 800 they ended up with a class of 80. As you mentioned it is pretty much down to grades and test scores since they don’t accept portfolios. It would be a nice safety school.
