How difficult is it to receive Georgetown or USC transfer scholarships?

The only real information I could find stated that these scholarships require high GPA’s. Does anyone know how often they are handed out?

Georgetown gives mostly need based aid. I didn’t realize they gave merit aid to transfers…at all. Even for incoming freshmen, merit aid is rare.

The vast bulk of their financial assistance comes in the form of need based aid.

It appears that G’town awards only need-based scholarships, but it doesn’t indicate if transfer students are eligible.

Look on USC’s website for their aid/scholarships.

Do you qualify for need based aid? Do you have a non custodial parent? How much will your parents pay?

I see that you’re a high school senior. Where will you be going to school in the fall? What is your parents budget for college?

This poster has been planning to transfer since December…before acceptances were even in.

To the OP…I agree with a poster reply on your other thread. Wait until after you have some college grades. Right now…you don’t even know if will, have the HIGH grades needed to be accepted as a transfer to Georgetown or USC.

Plus, I hope you chose a college for the upcoming year that is one where you can stay…because really that would be a good plan.

I’ll be going to lmu and my parents will be paying full tuition.

Then will they pay full tuition to G’town? It’s a fellow Jesuit school.

Yes, but I do not want to burden them with a full tuition.

Need based only at Georgetown. So…is your family eligible for need based aid? What is their annual income?

250+

You’re not going to get aid and you’re not likely going to get any merit scholarships.

Why are you letting your parents pay full cost at LMU, if that’s a concern? If you went to a CC for two years, and then had them pay for the last two years of your transfer school, that would be better.

Are you saying your parents earn $250,000 a year? If so…you won’t get a dime of aid from Georgetwon except a Direct loan of $6500 as a sophomore.

Those schools will require you to burden your parents rather than their financial aid resources.

You need to deal with the realities of your situation rather than some sort of magical dreaming:

Your GPA was lowish so you couldn’t get into the top schools you think you should attend.

You think that by going to LMU for a year or two, you’ll be able to transfer to some fabulous school AND get a merit scholarship so that your affluent parents won’t have to pay full freight for 4 years. Not happening.

So, either go to a CC for two years to save money and then transfer to where you can get in, or stay at LMU for four years, or take a gap year and apply where you can get in and is within your desired budget.

Since you’re now getting A’s, if you took a gap year, then the full affect of your A’s from junior and senior year will bring your GPA up to a level that you might get into a school that you want. But, UCs do not use senior year grades, so no help there.

In the end, I think you should go to LMU, do well, and then if desired, transfer where you can get in with the expectation that your family will be paying for all four years.

Fair enough, the merit scholarship was just a (overoptimistic) thought.
