How difficult will it be?

Hi, I am an undergrad student in an Ivy League University majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior and a pre-med concetration. I already have a BA in Psychology but from another country. My psychology GPA was 4.0 and my Neurocience GPA for the moment is 3.9, while pre-med im trying to push it up to a 3.6. I have planty of work experience as a research assistant. What else, ohh and I speak 5 languages, learning the 6th.

Assuming that I might get above 30 on MCAT, how compatitive will it be for me to get into medical school?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds to me like you’ll get into medical school somewhere. I think it’s premature to discuss this without a reliable MCAT score to work with, but I think it’s possible for you to narrow your GPA down. Schools aren’t interested in your major GPA, they’re interested in two things:

(1) Your overall GPA
(2) Your “BCPM” (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math) GPA

Probably only the GPA from your current school will matter.

If the latter is a 3.5 or so, then I think you’re probably a bit on the weaker side, but not dramatically so, and an MCAT score above 30 would certainly get you in somewhere.

Still, the verbal section is very brutal, especially for somebody who went to college overseas. Study hard. Remember, your score breakdown is as important as your overall total.

I am aware that the verbal section is brutal, however, it can not be harder that what we go through at CU as international students.

It’s not so much that the questions are hard - although they are - it’s that you’re really not allowed to miss very many at all. If I recall correctly, you basically lose a point for every question you miss; sometimes two questions correspond to one point. Of course, there are 60 questions and 15 points. Not a good ratio.

As strange as it may sound (being foreigner), the verbal section isn’t my main concerne. It is the BCPM part that is terrifying me. In the pre-med program they are drilling us at the point that we have no social life whatsoever.
